Emergency room at Surrey, BC, hospital to reopen Monday after flooding

SURREY, B.C. – The emergency room at Surrey Memorial Hospital will reopen on Monday after flooding almost two weeks ago forced the closure of B.C.’s busiest emergency department.

Patients had to be evacuated from the ER on Nov. 19 when a water main was broken during a construction project, sending water gushing into the facility.

Since then, crews have been working feverishly to clean up the mess and fix the damage to the ward and medical imaging areas.

The Fraser Health Authority says the ER and the imaging areas will open on Dec. 3 at 8:00 a.m.

At the same time, officials will close an urgent care centre set up at the Jim Pattison outpatient clinic, which has been acting as on off-site emergency department.

The BC Ambulance Service will also resume taking patients to the Surrey Memorial ER, instead of detouring to other area hospitals.
