NEW YORK, N.Y. – The NHL has suspended Montreal Canadiens forward Ryan White for five games for an illegal check to the head of Philadelphia defenceman Kent Huskins.
The incident occurred at 6:11 of the first period of Montreal’s 7-3 loss to the Flyers on Monday. White attempted to deliver an open-ice hit to Huskins as the defenceman came out from behind the Philadelphia net, but White misses Huskins’ body and hits him primarily in the head.
White was assessed a match penalty for illegal check to the head on the play.
Huskins left the game with what the Flyers say is a concussion.
White will forfeit $18,581.10. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
He will start his suspension Wednesday night when Montreal visits Pittsburgh.
