Corrosive chemical spill closes Prince George road after early morning crash
PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – Clean up crews expect to spend most of the day at the site of a chemical spill near the airport in Prince George, B.C.
RCMP say a flat bed semi-trailer crashed at about 6 a.m., dumping the corrosive chemical into a ditch along a secondary route known as the Old Cariboo Highway, east of the city.
The truck driver and the first Mountie on the scene were taken to hospital as a precaution after being exposed to the fumes.
The stretch of highway, between Johnson Road and Giscome Road, is closed to all traffic and will remain that way until clean up is complete.
The Prince George airport runway runs parallel to the closed road, but police say airport operations are not affected.
