Inquest told Winnipeg man who died in emergency room ignored most of 34 hours

WINNIPEG – A Winnipeg man who died during a 34-hour wait in a hospital emergency room was ignored virtually the entire time he was waiting for care.

That’s the testimony of a Winnipeg police officer at the inquest into Brian Sinclair’s death.

Sgt. John O’Donovan watched the surveillance footage of Sinclair’s time at the Health Sciences Centre in September 2008.

He says there were 150 people who moved through the ER that weekend and Sinclair was the only one who didn’t receive medical treatment.

O’Donovan says the video shows the double amputee was ignored while he languished in the emergency department.

Sinclair died from a treatable bladder infection caused by a blocked catheter.
