Sex offender Dustin Paxton indifferent in group counselling: social worker
CALGARY – A social worker says sex offender Dustin Paxton was controlling and indifferent during group counselling sessions meant to help inmates deal with addictions.
Lori LaRose was testifying at the resumption of Paxton’s dangerous offender hearing in Calgary.
She said Paxton exerted a significant amount of control over certain members of the group and other participants became guarded and afraid to speak.
Paxton was found guilty in February 2012 of aggravated and sexual assault against his former business partner and friend.
He was charged after a man was found dumped, near death, at a Regina hospital in 2010.
The Crown wants Paxton declared a dangerous offender, which would keep him in jail indefinitely.
The Crown says Paxton’s behaviour is unlikely to change and he could pose a danger to the public if released.
