Unknown band plays Montreal salsa club, turns out to be Arcade Fire

Social media caught fire when word emerged about a surprise concert by Arcade Fire at a downtown Montreal salsa club tonight.

On its website, the Salsatheque has the poster for a group called The Reflektors, whose faces are hidden. It turns out that unknown group is actually a Grammy award-winning band.

“Reflektor” happens to be the name of the single off Arcade Fires’s upcoming album.

The eight-minute single and video were already showing up on the web hours before the Montreal show. People, meanwhile, were lining up outside the salsa club since the morning, hoping to get in.

The single was coproduced by James Murphy of the now-defunct group LCDSoundsystem. It’s rumoured that David Bowie also collaborated.

It only costs $9 to attend the concert where “Reflektor,” which is off the group’s fourth album, will be officiallly launched. The album is scheduled to be released Oct. 29.

The band also played a free outdoor show near Montreal before launching its last album, “The Suburbs,” which went on to win the Grammy.
