Manitoba not calling inquest into case of mom who killed children before suicide

WINNIPEG – Manitoba’s chief medical examiner says there won’t be an inquest into the death of a Winnipeg mother who killed her two small children.

He is recommending instead that the province’s College of Physicians and Surgeons investigate the treatment 32-year-old Lisa Gibson received.

Police say Gibson drowned her two children — two-year-old Anna and three-month-old Nicholas — in the bathtub in July.

Her body was found three days later in the Red River.

The medical examiner says Gibson was suffering from postpartum depression.

He says the College of Physicians and Surgeons should look at whether the medical community can do anything to prevent similar deaths.
