Drug bust in Surrey, B.C., leads to arrest, charges and deportations

SURREY — Police in Surrey, B.C., say a trafficking investigation has led to the discovery of large quantities of illicit drugs, charges against a 24-year-old man, and the deportation of two others.

Police say their investigation began in February, setting off the search of a home in May, where the illicit drugs were found.

The search uncovered about 16 kilograms of opium, along with quantities of cannabis, cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine and heroin.

More than $2,000 in cash was also found, and three people were arrested at the scene before being released pending the investigation.

Police say 24-year-old Gurjot Singh was arrested last Friday and has now been charged with one count of trafficking and five counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The two other men who weren’t charged were removed from the country by the Canada Border Services Agency.

Singh, a foreign national, remains in police custody with his next court appearance set for Friday.
