iN VIDEO: Man trades up bike for a motorcycle in daring Kamloops theft
A opportunistic thief traded his bicycle for a motorcycle in a Kamloops parking garage and sped right through the garage door which was being repaired.
Anchor Door and Window was at The Station on Tranquille Road on Wednesday to repair the garage door after it had been damaged that morning, but they didn't expect to have their efforts stalled like this.
Greg Krenz, owner of Anchor Door and Window, said the staff were suspicious of the man when he rode in on the bicycle and lingered around the garage for some time. That's when they saw him leave the bike behind and start a motorcycle.
"They put the bottom section of the door in to stop him, thinking he couldn't ride past that," Krenz said.
Though the garage door is heavy, it wasn't enough to stop the man from plowing through "like Evel Knievel."
Krenz said the workers were disappointed they couldn't stop him, but they reported it to police to track down the stolen motorcycle.
A series of surveillance videos were posted to Twitter by Joshua Knaak of FIT Financial. Krenz was not aware of the videos before an interview with iNFOnews.ca, but it's possible they will be used for a future safety meeting, he said.
