iN VIDEO: BC Summer Games push through smoky weather for weekend games

Athletes hoping to practice and compete on the first day of the BC Summer Games woke up to thick smoke in Kelowna on Thursday. Environment and Climate Change Canada flagged Kelowna as orange level air quality, asking locals to avoid outdoor heavy physical activity. Teams were told to stop scheduled practice while competitions for Ultimate frisbee, towed water sports, and sailing were postponed. Schedules for indoor events took place without interruption.

Friday morning’s air quality was much better, with less visible smoke as teams gathered for their competitions and were able to compete over the weekend.

Over 3000 people were in attendance for the BC Summer Games, with over 19 different sports being hosted for the event. Many young aspiring teams and athletes were put to the competitive test and were given the chance to win medals for placing in the top 3 of each category.
