Canadian teens Huang and Xing three strokes off the lead at CPKC Women’s Open

EDMONTON — Several Canadians are near the top of the CPKC Women’s Open leaderboard at Edmonton’s Royal Mayfair Golf Club.

Vancouver’s Anna Huang, and amateur Michelle Xing of Richmond Hill, Ont., are three strokes behind Japan’s Miyu Yamashita, who opened with an 8-under-par 62.

Japan’s Nasa Hataoka is one shot off the lead and Kiara Romero of the United States is two strokes behind.

Defending champion Brooke Henderson, of Smiths Falls, Ont., is tied for 14th place at 3-under-par 67.

The LPGA Tour event includes six of the world’s top 10 golfers, including top-ranked American Nelly Korda.

Play continues through Sunday at the US$2.75-million tournament.
