Toronto FC midfielder Niklas Dorsch has surgery to repair broken cheekbone

TORONTO — Toronto FC midfielder Niklas Dorsch has had successful surgery to repair a facial fracture, the club said Friday.

Dorsch sustained the injury when he took an elbow to his cheekbone in the 91st minute of TFC’s 3-3 draw against Charlotte FC on Wednesday.

The blow came a minute after Dorsch had scored to tie the match up.

Toronto FC did not provide a timeline for Dorsch’s recovery.

The 28-year-old spent most of his career in Germany’s Bundesliga before moving to Major League Soccer when he signed with Toronto on July 28. He had only made three appearances and scored two goals for TFC before the injury.

Toronto FC visits Lionel Messi and Inter Miami on Saturday night.
