iN VIDEO: Vernon Regional Airport celebrates 80 years with day of appreciation

The community turned out in great numbers for the 80th anniversary of the Vernon Regional Airport and the Vernon Flying Club on Sunday, August 23. Vernon Airport Appreciation Day was a hit, with many locals coming out to see planes, vintage vehicles, and hangars open for people to see what was inside. Many local businesses and partners were also out showcasing their work that goes through the airport. Over 1900 people, including staff and organizers, came out to celebrate the day with Vernon.

If you have lived in Vernon a long time or maybe you’re relatively new to Vernon, many have driven past the airport, but have never gone inside. The event was a welcoming opportunity for the community to see what it was all about. The Vernon Flying Club was offering a free shuttle to and from the airport at Clarence Fulton Secondary’s parking lot to alleviate the heavy traffic and parking along Tronson Road.

There was plenty of food and drinks from local food trucks and fundraising. Guests could also check out a lineup of vintage planes, cars, and motorcycles to the South of the airport, parked in front of the hangars, and some were even for sale. Many people took photos and talked to owners about the history of the vehicles while enjoying some cooler weather after the heavy storms the night before.
