Matthew Perry docuseries tracing life of ‘Friends’ star to hit Netflix in October

Matthew Perry’s life is getting the documentary treatment.

Netflix says the Canadian-American actor, who died of an overdose in 2023, will be profiled in a three-part docuseries that will premiere on the streaming service on Oct. 27.

Perry, who lived in Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto as a child, rose to international fame playing lovable goofball Chandler Bing on the hit sit-com “Friends.”

Netflix says “The One About Matthew Perry” is directed by Mary Robertson, who is best known for the documentary mini-series “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.”

Netflix says the series will feature interviews with Perry’s sister, Mia Perry Bowick, and lifelong best friends.

The streaming service says the show will trace the highs and lows of Perry’s life.

Perry was open about his addictions to alcohol and prescription drugs, writing about it in his memoir “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing.”

In a written statement, Perry Bowick says it took her time to feel ready to share her memories of her brother with the world.

“I hope this series gives everyone who loved him, whether personally or from afar, a deeper appreciation for who he truly was, and the legacy he leaves behind,” she said in the statement.

The documentary comes after five people were convicted in connection with Perry’s death, including his live-in personal assistant, a drug addiction counsellor, and two doctors.
