OTTAWA — Arinn Young led the way with 23 points, six rebounds and nine assists as Canada remained undefeated with an 80-37 win over Brazil in Group A action at the IWBF wheelchair basketball world championships on Sunday at TD Place.

Cindy Ouellet and Elise Froese each added 15 points off the bench as Canada improved to 4-0 at the tournament.

Geisa Vieira paced Brazil with eight points.

The Canadians got off to a hot start, taking a 19-4 edge into the break after the first quarter and never looked back.

Canada was outrebounded 33-31, but shot 56 per cent from the field, held a 26-14 edge in assists and forced Brazil into 28 turnovers while only having nine.

“We identified our threats really fast; they threw a couple of lineups in, but I think we adapted really well, and we worked together as a team better than we have yet,” said Froese, who had five rebounds.

“We were super excited going into that game, and the result was exactly what we wanted. These are emotional games going into them, especially coming off our win against China on Saturday. We needed a big win today, and that was what the team wanted to come home with, and it’s exactly what we did on the court.”

Canada will finish the group stage with a game against Great Britain on Tuesday at Carleton University.
