Kamloops Rock Choir makes concert debut with classic rock favourites

Classic rock is getting the choir treatment in Kamloops this weekend as the Kamloops Rock Choir prepares for its debut concert at Sagebrush Theatre.

The performance takes place Sunday, September 27 at 7:30 pm and will bring together a large community choir and live band for an evening of familiar rock favourites.

Audience members can expect songs from artists and groups including Blink-182, AC/DC, Heart, Joan Jett and Talking Heads, giving the crowd plenty of opportunities to recognize a favourite and sing along from their seats.

The Kamloops Rock Choir is a non-auditioned community group created for people who enjoy singing rock music. Members perform alongside a live band featuring piano, bass, guitar and drums, giving the choir a full rock-concert sound rather than a traditional choral setup.

For many members, the group offers a chance to sing music they already love while performing as part of a larger community ensemble.

The debut concert will also support a local cause.

All proceeds from the performance will go to the Mount Paul Community Food Centre, which provides food access, community meals, food skills programming and other supports for people in Kamloops.

That means the evening is not only a chance to hear classic rock performed in a different way, but also an opportunity to support an organization working directly in the community.

The concert is open to all ages and takes place at Sagebrush Theatre, located at 1300 9 Avenue in Kamloops.

Tickets are $25.
