Jon Rahm skips Spanish Open to await birth of fourth child

MADRID (AP) — Three-time Spanish Open champion Jon Rahm will not play in his home tournament this week as he waits for the birth of his fourth child.

Tournament organizers announced Tuesday that Rahm will be a “last-minute” absence from the tournament that he won in 2018, 2019 and 2022.

Spanish media said Rahm is in the United States awaiting the birth of his daughter.

Rahm was among the top names in a strong field that will include Justin Rose, Ludvig Aberg, Patrick Reed, Shane Lowry, Sergio García and Bubba Watson.

Marco Penge is the defending champion in Madrid.
