CLEARWATER – A former minor sports coach who was once an RCMP Constable was arrested yesterday in Calgary on eight counts of sexual assault of minors possibly dating back three decades.
RCMP Supt. Brendan Fitzpatrick led a news conference out of Vancouver March 7, 2014 saying the police investigation spanning British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan came after reports Alan John Davidson, 58, sexually assaulted people under 18 while serving as a minor hockey and baseball coach in Clearwater B.C. All charges to date took place in Clearwater. Davidson will appear in Kamloops court April 3, 2014.
Davidson coached minor teams in the three provinces from the 1970s to 2008. He also served as an RCMP Constable in Alberta and Saskatchewan from February 1982 to August 1996. In 1996 he changed careers to pursue an undisclosed business opportunity in Alberta. Fitzpatrick said there is no evidence Davidson committed assaults after joining the RCMP.
The RCMP are hoping other victims, if any, will step forward now that the arrest has been made. Anyone with information can contact the RCMP using a special number 1-877-687-3377.
