Six charged in connection with violent West Kelowna kidnapping

A West Kelowna man once implicated as being part of a gang called the Kelowna Warriors is one of six individuals charged with a violent kidnapping that took place at a gas station in August.

West Kelowna resident Tyson Ashleigh Bone, 43, along with his partner Savanna Ashley-Lynn Malone, 35, remain in custody awaiting a bail hearing next week for the alleged kidnapping of Daniel Brooks and Brandi Thompson at a West Kelowna Chevron gas station on Aug. 25.

Police at the time asked the public if anyone had seen a male being forced into a grey coloured BMW at the gas station on Industrial Road around 10 p.m.

Along with Bone and Malone, 59-year-old Bruce Edward Taylor also remains in custody.

Two others have been released on bail, including 39-year-old Crystal Anne Richard, who used to go by Crystal Smallboy, and 40-year-old Briaden Rosch. There is currently an arrest warrant out for 45-year-old Scott Frank Carl Chambers.

The six have been charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, and assault with a weapon. Some of the group have also been charged with unlawful confinement or imprisonment, assault by choking, assault causing bodily harm, and mischief.

It’s unclear whether the six are part of a gang, but in 2016 Kelowna RCMP said Bone was a member of a small new gang called the Kelowna Warriors. At the time, police seized a significant number of guns and drugs from a West Kelowna home. Police also uncovered a Kelowna Warriors vest and named Bone as a member of the gang.

Bone and Malone were charged with 24 weapons counts, but all the charges were later stayed.

In 2022, Bone was convicted of trafficking in stolen property and once had a restraining order put on him after being charged with assault with a weapon.

Everyone in the group has a criminal history.

In 2007, Taylor was convicted for running a grow-op in Lumby. One of his charges in the case was the fraudulent consumption of electricity. He’s also previously been convicted of fraud and uttering threats, and in 2019 he was charged after making an online threat against then-Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran.

Braiden Rosch has the most significant criminal record of the group. In 2018, he was accused of being involved in four bank robberies, and he did three years in jail for a string of robberies in the Lower Mainland. In 2023, he was again accused of holding up a CIBC in Creston. He also has convictions for fraud and did a short stint in jail earlier this year for dangerous driving.

Court records show he’s gone under the names Jesse Anderson, Brandon, and B Nuts.

There is currently an arrest warrant out for Chambers, who is also facing charges of driving while prohibited. Last year, Chambers did three months in jail for sexual assault.

It’s not known what connection the group have to the victims, but both Brooke and Thompson do have criminal records.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.
