Swastika spray painted in West Kelowna parking lot targeted Jewish man

West Kelowna RCMP are hoping to find witnesses after a swastika was found spray painted behind the vehicle of a Jewish man.

Officers were called to the parking lot of a mall in the 500 block of Highway 97 in West Kelowna yesterday evening, July 21, to a complaint a swastika had been painted on the ground.

RCMP say the exact time of the incident is not known but probably happened yesterday morning, July 21.

“The swastika was put directly behind the vehicle of a Jewish man, who was understandably very upset when he saw it,” West Kelowna RCMP Sgt. Joel Glen said in a media release.

“Racism of any kind has no place in our community and will not tolerated. We are conducting a fulsome investigation into this incident, and appeal to anyone who witnessed it to come forward.”

RCMP are asking anyone who has dashcam footage, or was in the area and saw suspicious activity that day, to contact the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880.
