Kelowna woman charged in Thanksgiving Day fatal collision with motorcycle

A 19-year-old Kelowna woman has been charged in connection with a collision on Thanksgiving Day last year that claimed the life of a motorcyclist.

Kelowna RCMP and B.C. Highway Patrol members were called to a crash between a Chevrolet Tracker and a motorcycle, Oct. 12, 2020, on Highway 33 and Goudie Road in the city, according to a B.C. Highway Patrol media release.

The westbound motorcycle ridden by a 60-year-old South Okanagan man was hit head-on by the Tracker which RCMP say illegally entered the motorcyclist’s lane.

“The widow of the man killed in this senseless collision is devastated by the overwhelming loss of her husband,” B.C. Highway Patrol Cpl. Samantha Audley said in the release. 

“These investigations are very complex, involving specialized units including the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service, and can take many months to complete before presenting the file to Crown Counsel for charge recommendation.”

Carlie Dudych, 19, of Kelowna is scheduled to appear court on Sept. 28 charged with driving without due care.
