Man in hospital with ‘serious injuries’ after run over by truck on Okanagan Rail Trail

A man is currently in the hospital with serious injuries after being run over by a truck last night on the Okanagan Rail Trail.

Police received a call that a man had been run over just after midnight, Sept. 25, on the rail trail near Baillie Avenue, according to the Kelowna RCMP's news release.

Police officers attended the scene and arrested the driver of a black Dodge Ram with an Alberta plate.

Those on scene aided the victim until the Kelowna Fire Department and Emergency Health Services could transport him to the hospital where he is receiving medical care for significant injuries, according to the RCMP.

“The investigation is still ongoing but it appears that alcohol was a factor,” said inspector Beth McAndie, with the Kelowna Regional RCMP, in the news release.

The area near the accident was populated by people living in tents and temporary shelters.

The RCMP is asking anyone who witnessed the incident to call the Kelowna RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 to remain anonymous.
