Lumby RCMP continues to report high number of drunk drivers

LUMBY – Lumby residents don’t seem to be getting the message when it comes to drunk driving, says the village’s top cop.

Cpl. Henry Proce with the Lumby RCMP detachment says officers are arresting local residents in very high numbers for impaired driving.

In the last three weeks, at least six drivers were charged with the offence, Proce said in a media release. 

One troubling example is that of a man who was caught behind the wheel while impaired for the second time, Proce said.

“This latter driver simply isn't getting it, he had already been arrested for drunk driving back in September and that charge is still before the courts,” Proce said.

Proce said the man was prohibited from driving due to a lengthy driving record anyway.

“It is these sorts of individuals that present such a hazard to themselves and innocent motorists on B.C. highways,” Proce said.
