Prohibited and impaired drivers taken off the road by Chase RCMP

CHASE – Check stops and impaired drivers kept Chase RCMP busy over the past week.

On Nov. 12, officers issued a driver a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and impounded their truck for 30 days after the driver rear-ended a tractor trailer turning right on Highway 1 in Sorrento. After attending the crash, police investigated the driver for impaired driving, Sgt. Gary Heebner of Chase RCMP says in a release.

At a check stop in Sorrento the following day, Nov. 13, officers checked about 20 vehicles. Heebner says one driver was investigated for impaired driving while another was issued a violation ticket for no insurance.

Heebner says officers stopped 40 vehicles at another traffic check stop at Squilax-Anglemont Road and Little Shuswap Lake Road on Nov. 14. One person was investigated for impaired driving and handed a three-day driving prohibition.

Also on Nov. 14, the detachment received a complaint about a purse stolen from a vehicle in Scotch Creek around 10 a.m. Heebner says a thief stole credit cards, a cell phone and a camera from the purse, but no witnesses have come forward. Anyone with information on the crime is asked to contact the Chase RCMP at 250-679-3221.

Two days later, on Nov. 16, Heebner says an off-duty officer spotted a known prohibited driver travelling near Pritchard in his pickup truck. The driver now has a court date while the truck was impounded.
