Government officials examining diesel spill at Kamloops rail yard

KAMLOOPS – Officials from Transport Canada are investigating a diesel spill at a local rail yard that occurred on Christmas Day.

Approximately 8,000 litres of diesel spilled in the CN rail yard during a fuel transfer from a railcar to a truck on Dec. 25, according to company spokesperson Kate Fenske.

David Karn, media relations for B.C.’s Ministry of Environment says no nearby waterways were affected and a clean up truck was on scene the day of the incident. He says no penalties or rulings were imposed on the railway by ministry officials.

Administrators from Transport Canada are following up on the incident to determine if there were any violations under the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act.
