Dozens of distracted drivers caught on North Shore, downtown Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – Kamloops RCMP conducted traffic blitzes earlier this week and it appears drivers still aren't getting the message about putting down their phones while behind the wheel.

On Tuesday, Aug. 30, the traffic team set up at the intersections of Seymour Street and 1 Avenue, and Tranquille Road and Sydney Avenue.

Police caught 30 drivers using electronic devices while driving, according to an RCMP news release.

"Kamloops RCMP is committed to road safety and would like to remind motorists to put away their electronic devices while driving," the release says.

Officers also caught 21 drivers without seatbelts on.

Below are some other driving infractions police had to hand out tickets for:

• Eight vehicle defects
• Six yellow light at intersection infractions
• Three drivers license infractions
• Two drivers without insurance
• One red light at intersection infraction
• One speeding
• One missing license plate
• One unsafe lane change
• One driving while suspended
• One misuse of a license plate
• One driving while suspended
• One no case drug seizure

RCMP say officers will be conducting more traffic blitzes in the coming months.
