Murder charge laid in connection with Vernon death

VERNON – A 21-year-old man is facing a murder charge in relation to the death of a woman in Vernon Tuesday night.

Angelo Gabriel Monfort is accused of one count of murder in connection with the death of a woman who was found seriously injured at The Strand apartment building. The 49-year-old woman was rushed to hospital, but died of her injuries.

Police have only said the 21-year-old suspect and the woman were known to each other and have not commented on the relationship.

It was shortly after 11 p.m. on June 20, that Vernon RCMP responded to a report of an assault at an apartment unit in the 7300 block of Okanagan Landing Road in Vernon, Sgt. Annie Linteau said in a media release issued yesterday, June 21.

Monfort next appears in Vernon Court July 10 to fix a date.
