Most actively traded companies on the TSX, TSX Venture Exchange markets

TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Friday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (12,317.46 down 21.39 points):

Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TSX:TXG). Miner. Up six cents, or 2.91 per cent, at $2.12 on 15,005,077 shares. The gold sector was up 0.16 per cent at 349.20 points.

Research In Motion (TSX:RIM). Wireless technology. Up 56 cents, or 8.05 per cent, at $7.52 on 10,351,573 shares. The BlackBerry and PlayBook maker`s stock traded as high as $7.97 during intraday trading after announcing better-than-expected results for its second quarter. RIM posted Thursday a loss of US$235 million or 45 cents per share compared with profits of $329 million or 63 cents per share in the year-earlier period. Revenue dropped to $2.87 billion from $4.17 billion.

Air Canada (TSX:AC.A). Airliner. Up two cents, or 1.60 per cent, at $1.27 on 7,956,828 shares. The national carrier named Klaus Goersch as its new chief operating officer. Goersch was executive vice-president of operations and customer service at Air Tran Airways and helped oversee the merger of AirTran into Southwest Airlines.

Kinross Gold Corp. (TSX:K). Miner. Up 15 cents, or 1.51 per cent, at $10.06 on 4,329,818 shares.

Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX:SU). Oil and gas. Down eight cents, or 0.25 per cent, at $32.34 on 4,248,203 shares. The energy sector dropped 0.41 per cent to 259.68 points.

Barrick Gold Corp. (TSX:ABX). Miner. Up 11 cents, or 0.27 per cent, at $41.08 on 4,210,525 shares.

TSX Venture Exchange (1,334.51 up 12.20 points):

Route1 Inc. (TSXV:ROI). Security and technology. Up half a cents, or 12.50 per cent, at 4.5 cents on 13,047,000 shares.

Poynt Corp. (TSX:PYN). Software company. Down a penny, or 28.57 per cent, at 2.5 cents on 3,826,900 shares.

Companies reporting major news:

CGA Mining Ltd. (TSX:CGA). Miner. Down 10 cents, or 3.45 per cent, at 1,960,928 shares. CGA, which signed a deal to be acquired by B2Gold Corp. (TSX:BTO), said its full-year profit plunged to US$6 million or 1.78 cents per share compared with year-ago earnings of US$65.1 million or 19.2 cents per share. CGA blames problems at its gold project in the Philippines for the 90 per cent drop in profit. Revenue totalled $187.7 million, down from $238.5 million.

Garda World Security Corp. (TSX:GW). Security. Unchanged at $11.93 on 17,365 shares. The Montreal-based company have to pay a $10-million break fee if the security and logistics firm accepts a higher takeover offer than a proposed $1.1-billion deal with its CEO and British private equity firm Apax Partners.

Niko Resources Ltd. (TSX:NKO). Up $1.09, or 8.73 per cent, at $13.58 on 782,671 shares. Niko suspended its quarterly dividend as it kicks off a major exploration in Indonesia which the company describes as its most significant exploration program in its history.
