Vigilantes put Northern BC man in hospital because of ‘rumours’

One man is in hospital after a group of vigilantes targeted him in Northern BC.

Dawson Creek RCMP say the 20-year-old was attacked twice in less the 12 hours because of "unsubstantiated rumours" on social media, according to a news release.

Police were called around 9:45 p.m. July 12 when he was assaulted by the group near a local business, then again around 6:45 a.m. the next day.

It's not clear whether it was the same people in both assaults and police didn't detail what the rumours were.

The man is getting medical treatment for injuries that are not life-threatening, according to the release.

Anyone with information can contact Dawson Creek RCMP at 250-784-3700.
