PROSKIW: The lesson of the day: It’s okay to fight dirty
At a recent B.C. Teachers Federation anti-government rally, one of the speakers brought someone with her to the microphone.
Her five-year-old son was suddenly before 300 cheering people on the side of a busy highway. The boy tries to hide in her arms a few times but after some gentle prodding he eventually parrots “I want school.”
Cute kid but I have to question his ability to contribute to solving this very serious and complicated problem.
For someone who’s long grown tired of this neverending dispute, the ploy seemed a shameless manipulation and escalation of an already too emotional issue.
If Christy Clark tried the same trick the unions would rip her apart and rightly so. Using kids as shields is not just a questionable parenting decision, it’s simply not helpful. Children are not going to solve this problem, and neither will adults who behave like children.
Let’s remember that just because our kids aren’t in school right now doesn’t mean they aren’t learning. And question the lessons we are teaching them about cooperation and compromise.

Hey Adam – you are clearly not informed of the issues and are blind to the lessons on civil rights and freedoms, not to mention honesty and integrity that our wonderful government is teaching our children right now. With their behaviours, they are the ones teaching the lessons of take what you want, give in to no one unless it benefits you, and lie to yourself and everyone out there to justify your actions.SHAME ON YOU for judging, what are you teaching the population with your article. Yes freedom of speech but as long as it’s your position. There is NO COOPERATION AND COMPROMISE coming from our government. WE ARE teaching our the children of BC to stand up for the rights and freedoms we ALL deserve! If you have any children Adam, it is YOU who should be careful about what you are teaching THEM!

the only one behaving like a child is Christy clark,. the school teachers are fighting for what’s right for the children.

We are also teaching them to stand up to employers who break the law. Just because Christy doesn’t bring them to the line, doesn’t mean she isn’t using them at least as shamelessly. And many of these children are with teacher/parents who would prefer to put them in school.
