Ontario’s Liberals bring in bill to help small businesses

TORONTO – Ontario’s governing Liberals are moving ahead with a budget promise to help small businesses.

Finance Minister Charles Sousa will announce today that he will introduce legislation to raise the ceiling for a health tax exemption.

If passed, the bill would increase the threshold to $450,000 from $400,000, as well as index it to inflation.

They’ll also stop companies with a payroll over $5 million from claiming the health tax exemption.

It was among the measures the minority Liberals put in the May budget to ensure the New Democrats would support it and avoid an election.
