Dow Jones industrial average closes at an all-time high of 15,744; S&P 500 near its own record

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Dow Jones industrial average is closing at another record high.

The Dow rose 128 points, or 0.8 per cent, to 15,746, beating the record it set last Tuesday by 66 points.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index rose seven points, or 0.4 per cent, to 1,770, just one point below its own all-time high.

One of the biggest gainers in the S&P 500 index was Ralph Lauren, which rose $9.33, or 5.5 per cent, to $180.52. The luxury retailer reported earnings that beat analysts’ estimates and issued an optimistic forecast for the holiday season.

The Nasdaq composite fell eight points, or 0.2 per cent, to 3,932.

The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note fell to 2.63 per cent from 2.67 per cent.

More stocks rose than fell on the New York Stock Exchange.
