Boater helps police rescue woman from river in Kamloops

A boater helped police save a woman from the river in Kamloops Sunday night.

Officers were called to a spot near Riverside Park East where a woman was in distress in the water under the train bridge, April 27, according to a press release from police.

“When police arrived on scene, they called out to the woman, but she did not engage and instead, began to float downstream,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.

“Fortunately, they were able to quickly flag down a civilian in a jet boat, who took them out to where the woman was floating, further into the main current.”

Officers pulled the woman out of the river into the boat and she was taken to hospital for an assessment and care under the Mental Health Act.

One of the officers had minor injuries but is expected to fully recover.
