iN VIDEO: BC birds who live their lives on webcams

Kelowna’s local celebrity bird is back on camera as FortisBC turns on the livestream.

The camera along Benvoulin Road is back on and viewers can watch the osprey nesting on the Kelowna power pole.

It’s just in time for hatching season and while it doesn’t appear any eggs have been laid yet, viewers have been able to watch babies hatch in real-time in the past.

Osprey nests on power poles can be dangerous both for the equipment and the birds, so FortisBC moves any new nests to purpose-built platforms, with more than 20 built in the region over the years.

In addition to the Kelowna camera, one in Osoyoos typically livestreams its resident ospreys, but it appears to be disconnected.

For those looking to watch more wildlife in real-time, a Lower Mainland wildlife program has a camera on a few newly-hatched northern spotted owls, which are nearly extinct in BC. That camera can be found here.

The City of Vancouver also has a camera in Stanley Park that livestreams a Pacific great blue heron nest, which can be found here.
