Flood prevention plan will keep McDougall Creek dry

KELOWNA — A flood protection plan for West Kelowna neighborhood is now complete, just in time for flood season.

McDougall Creek is a high-flood risk area, but residents can rest assured their homes and roads are better equipped for potential flooding during the Okanagan’s rainy season.

Premier Christy Clark promised to find a cost-effective, long-term flood prevention plan for McDougall Creek last year. After doling out $585,000 of provincial and municipal funds,the project is complete.

“The work that has now been done will protect homeowners and road access, and will also help prevent the localized flood threat from extending upstream,” said Clark in a press release.

McDougall Creek has faced several unfortunate flood events in the recent past.

“It is a relief that we are going into spring freshet having addressed this ongoing issue,” said West Kelowna mayor, Doug Findlater.
